Marguerite “Margie” Marie Degenhardt, 94 of Altenburg died on June 1, 2017, at Independence Care Center Of Perry County in Perryville, Missouri.
Margie was born April 20, 1923 in Altenburg, Missouri; the daughter of Theodore and Lydia (Grosse) Engert. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. On December 6, 1942 she married Henry Johnson in Columbus, Georgia and lived in Columbus for 12 years. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Vonnel Wayne and Kenneth Edward. In 1954 she moved back to St. Louis and worked at Concordia Publishing House for 24 years. She became active at Holy Cross Lutheran Church as Sunday school teacher, choir, Evening Guild, and Mother’s Club member. On May 6, 1978 she married Reinhold Degenhardt in Altenburg. She became active at Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as Ladies Aid president for over 20 years, choir member, Lutheran Woman Missionary League, Lutheran Family and Children Services, Altenburg Homemakers Golden Age and was an avid quilter.
Surviving are two sons, Vonnel Wayne (Corazon) Johnson of St. Charles and Kenneth Edward Johnson of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Marvin Johnson, Reina (Stephen) Liford and Tiffany Johnson and one great grandson, Ryan Liford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elmira Schmidt and three brothers, Milton, Edward, and Vernon Engert.
Visitation will be held at Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg on Wednesday, June 7 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and on Thursday, June 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 am. She will then be taken to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg for funeral service at 10:00 am with Rev. Frank Lucas officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm. at Concordia Cemetery, 4209 Bates St, St. Louis, MO 63116.
